Marrakesh

Marrakesh is part of a series of abstract botanical paintings, inspired by some of my favorite places.

I experimented with two different processes which I combined in order to created contrast. The underlayer, which is soft and fuzzy, is created using the technique of dragging paint with a squeegy, this produces a blurred effect of being out of focus. The top layer, which is flat and more graphic, is applied using spray paint and stencils, making it sharper and more defined.

Experimenting with paint process is a joyous, playful activity, I think this joie de vivre is reflected in this series.
