I’m Simone Russell, a contemporary landscape artist based in London. I studied Printed Textiles at Glasgow School of Art, where I became fascinated by how colour, texture and light can change the way we see a scene.

My love of landscape began at home, with reproductions of Turner and Constable on the walls. I was drawn to the way they made nature feel vast, moving and full of wonder. That feeling still finds its way into my work, alongside inspiration from far-flung travels and quieter walks on Hampstead Heath.

I’m especially drawn to the golden hour: the first light of morning, full of promise, and the glow of evening as the day softens. There’s something about those in-between moments that makes the familiar feel new. When I paint, I try to stay with that feeling—the stillness, the warmth, the sense that the world has briefly opened up. I build thin layers of oil with brushes and pours, letting gold, amber and soft rose drift into one another until the landscape becomes more atmosphere than description.

I hope my paintings bring a little of that stillness into your home. A moment to pause in the middle of the day. A reminder to look up, notice the light and feel connected to the world beyond your walls. Each painting is an invitation to linger—to find your own memories in the landscape, and to return to a feeling of calm, warmth and wonder.
